Gecko Surfari 1988 Dark Purple Volcanic Acid Wash + Glow In The Dark Geckos!
Purple Volcanic Acid Wash has quickly become one of our most popular tee colors. Not only is every tee unique due to the hand washing/dying process, but it's a very rich, dark, purple (sometimes feels like black), with acid wash tones of lighter purple and grey all over!

History of GECKO SURFARI
Gecko Surfari is a hand-drawn Gecko Hawaii design that was hugely successful in 1988. We re-issued it earlier in our relaunch and it sold out in every color we had. This time around, we are re-issuing Surfari , because we haven't printed it in 2 years -- and have been receiving requests for it from new Gecko Fam members who recently found us again after a decade -- and missed the first round of re-issues 2 years ago!
But in true Gecko Hawaii 2.0 fashion -- if we are going to re-issue a re-issue, then we want to make it different and special than all of the other releases before it! It's such an iconic design from the 80s, that we wanted to print it for the first time on a white splatter, acid wash, and HYPER FLASH!
A PERSONAL NOTE: WHY THIS PUFFED-INK SHIRT OOZES WITH NOSTALGIA LIKE NON-OTHER
This shirt is "DOUBLE puffed" which gives it a distinct quality that I personally haven't seen or experienced since 1985, when I was 6 years old --- it is saturated with nostalgia.
This new "puffed" reprint of Gecko Safari that Team Gecko assembled -- this sounds crazy -- but I honestly almost started to cry of happiness, because I was struck with memories that I didn't even know I had from long ago. I was blown away!
The second detail is the depth of the ink around the Gecko's sunglasses. It is so unique and I literally had a flashback to 1st grade! I remembered having shirts with graphics that were so puffed, I would just sit at my desk and stare at the shirt all day and poke at the "3-Dimension" quality, stretching and squishing the ink, wondering "How did they do that?" It brought up all sorts of happy memories about mom and that time of my life that I thought I had forgotten about. If I was to have known that flash forward 34 years, I'd be working with the ORIGINAL Gecko Hawaii crew, it would have blown my mind!
